Safety on the Line: Thousands of Ford Explorers Are Being Called Back

May 28, 2025 by Chuck Panzarella

Legally reviewed by: Chuck Panzarella, JD

Hey there, Ford Explorer owners! There’s something important we need to chat about. Ford has issued a recall that affects certain Explorer models from 2011 to 2019. It’s all about the exterior A-pillar trim — that’s the trim that runs along the windshield’s edges.

Ford found that the trim’s retention clips might not be holding tight, which could let the trim piece fly off while you’re driving.

Obviously, that’s not great. It could become a road hazard for others and increase the risk of a crash. So, let’s break down what this means for you and what you can do about it.

Ford Explorer A-Pillar Trim Recall

What’s the Issue?

In layman’s terms, the A-pillar trim on some Explorers might not be as secure as it should be. Over time, or due to certain conditions, it can loosen and potentially detach from the vehicle.

Imagine cruising down the highway, and suddenly, a piece of your car decides to go solo. Not ideal, right? Especially since it could startle other drivers or even cause accidents.

How Big of a Deal Is This?

Ford’s taking it seriously. We’re talking about nearly 1.9 million vehicles that could be affected. That’s a lot of SUVs.

After receiving numerous reports and conducting investigations, Ford decided to recall the vehicles to prevent any possible incidents. Safety first, always.

What’s Ford Doing to Fix It?

Ford’s got a plan. They’re asking owners to bring their Explorers to a dealership, where technicians will inspect the A-pillar trim and replace it if necessary.

The best part? It’s totally free. No cost to you.

They started sending out interim letters in February 2024 to let owners know about the safety risk. A second letter will follow once the final remedy is ready.

What Should You Do?

First off, don’t panic. Ford is on top of it. Keep an eye out for the letter from Ford if you own an Explorer from those years.

Once you get the go-ahead, schedule a visit to your dealership. They’ll take care of everything.

In the meantime, if you have concerns or questions, you can always reach out to Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332.

They’re there to help.

Conclusion and Next Steps

Your safety is super important, both to you and Ford. If you’re driving one of the affected Explorer models, taking action is key.

Get that trim checked out and replaced if needed. It’s a simple step that can prevent potential hazards down the road.

Remember, staying informed and proactive about recalls is part of being a responsible vehicle owner. Drive safe, everyone!
